Dear all,
Thank you for all your useful contributions regarding the European
Patellidae. I now have a question regarding the South African ones. In
'Marine Shells of South Africa' Steyn & Lussi, is mentioned the species P.
obtecta Krauss, 1848. This species is not mentioned in Kilburn & Rippey,
which is generally quite comprehensive. Powell (thanks Bill, for reminding
me I had a copy) says it is synonymous with P. barbara. Why did Steyn and
Lussi take it out of synonymy?
Another question. Is there anyone out there, who would like to swap some of
these species with me in exchange for something else? I'd be interested in
any limpets Patellidae, Lottidae, Nacellidae, Fissurellidae etc.
(incidentally, other families, too), especially from South Africa, South
America and Asian countries. All I ask is that they are good quality and
representative for the species (size, colour etc)
regards
Patty
