David,
Cora Staples passed away in 1992. Most of the Staples collection (1411
specimens) was donated to The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum in 1994,
actually before the Museum opened (1995). According to a letter from Tucker
Abbott to Cora's husband, George, Tucker actually drove to Butner, NC, to
pick up the shells, in the company of the late Walter Sage. Part of the
Staples collection had been given earlier (1979) by the family to the North
Carolina Museum of Natural History in Raleigh.
Best wishes,
José
