Ross, I believe that Peter Ward has had second thoughts about the
validity of all species other than
N. pompilius and N. macromphalus. N. scrobiculatus has been moved to
Allonautilus, though on shell characters I can't help seeing close
similarities between this species & the Triassic-Jurassic
Cenoceras... which seems to be the direct ancestor of Nautilus.
