It's advisable to remove the dentures from your mouth first.
Any acid can dissolve shell and calcareous deposits on the shell. Vinegar is probably easier to obtain than most other options, and being a little weaker than some may be easier to work with. The difficulty is trying to ensure that only the part you don't want gets dissolved.
