There are also captive breeding programs in place for several rare
freshwater mollusks, though the need for finding the right host fish
adds an extra challenge for the unionoids, and for many species finding
enough individuals to try to breed is a problem.
Common freshwater mussels are raised in captivity (often cages in a
ditch) for pearl production in China.
I have basommatophorans breeding in my aquarium, but I don't think
there's much market for them.
