James,
There are several things I would try if I had that problem. First, I would
try to blue-tack the shell with the base onto the bottom of the LID of the
scanner (btw do you yanks know what blue-tack is?). If that didn't work, I
would get a piece of black foam rubber (the type that is used for packaging
and you can buy at hardware stores that sell air-conditioning supplies -
it's often used to stop window airconditioners from vibrating). I would
make a small depression in the rubber (i.e. pluck a small piece out without
making a hole) and sit this over the shell to keep it in place.
