Dear All:
The Florida Museum of Natural History is putting together an exhibit on
southern Florida, including information on the Calusa, a tribe of Native
Americans formerly inhabiting the southwest portion of the peninsula.
One of exhibits will display a large Macrocallista nimbosa (7 - 8" in
length) with a person's figure carved on the internal surface. This
etching will be fashioned after a real specimen collected many years ago
from one of the archaeological sites.
Our museum does not any large specimens of this common species without
locality data. I am reluctant to sacrifice a well-documented specimen for
the exhibit. Before I do so I thought I would ask if anyone has a large
specimen to donate. We can not purchase the specimen. All I can do is to
provide a donation certificate and reimburse any mailing costs.
Please let me know if you can provide me with one.
Many thanks....Kurt
