Hi Nora,
If your shell has a distinct pink-red color around the aperture (as opposed to
a slight pinkish tint), it may be Fasciolaria (Pleuroploca) salmo. I believe
that is shown in Eisenberg. It comes to mind not only because of the color
and the same general shape, but also because you said your shell is smooth.
Volema tuba and its close relatives have spiral sculpture. Trying to ID a
shell by a written description is usually just guesswork, but anyway, there's
one guess to check out.
