Kentucky is using the term "change over time" rather than "evolution", but
unlike Kansas is not changing the standards. It may actually not be that
bad a move in trying to get the facts taught without raising as much fuss.
In teaching change over time, they can cite some good examples from their
state. There are very well-preserved Carboniferous fossil mollusks in
eastern Kentucky, some of which preserve evolutionary transitions. Some
solemyoids and pectinoids retain some ancestral nacre while starting to
develop the porcellaneous structure seen in their modern relatives, for
example.
