Dear all,

I will now elaborate on my previous message

First of all, to Eric, I'd like to say that the response was very
well-considered, I spent half a day thinking about it. I considered writing
privately, but I didn't because I was afraid that if I didn't, nobody else
would say anything and I didn't think it was a message anyone would be
allowed to get away with. Secondly, I deliberately made it short and
slightly inflammatory, so as to insure people would read it. Seeing the
responses that approach seems to have worked. I am also sure some good
discussions are going to come out of it.

Secondly, to Andrew. Sure, the University of Georgia does not allow
advertising on any of it's lists. However, many members are on the list to
find out about things, including where to buy shells, and some time ago, we
agreed that short messages by dealers announcing a new catalogue etc. are
acceptable. So if write something like "I have just uploaded a set of new
shells on Ebay, have a look at.... whatever the URL is" this does not stir
too many members, and many would indeed appreciate it. There was simply no
need for the derogatory tone in your message. If you are indeed the same
Andrew who used George's pictures, please beware that there were many on
this list, including myself, who stuck out our necks in favour of you. The
shelling community is very small, a good name is very hard to build up. If
you contribute positively to the forum and shelling community in general,
you will be well-regarded, and you don't need to be COA president to
achieve this. Indeed it has nothing to do with the COA.

And last but not least. Wouldn't this list be dull without the occasional
spit?

Patty
