Dear Shelling Friends,
 
"Just got back from Illinois,
 Locked the front door, oh boy" CCR
 
The Greater St. Louis Shell Club hosted their biennial shell show this
past weekend at the Chesterfield Mall in Chesterfield, Mo.  Scientific
judges were Emilio Garcia, Ph.D.,from Lafayette, LA, and Kevin
Sunderland and Linda Sunderland from Sunrise, FL.
 
A few of the winning displays were:
 
DuPont Trophy: Mrs. Frieda Schilling, St. Louis, MO for
"Introduction           to Land Shells"
 
COA Trophy: Mrs. Karen Couch of Olathe, KS for "Fresh Water Mussels:
Canaries in a Coal Mine."
 
St. Louis Award: Mrs. Kathy Krattli of O'Fallon, MO for "Family
Neritidae."  The St. Louis Award was the presented this show for the
most excellent exibit under ten feet in length.
 
Display Techniques Trophy: Mrs. Carol Bodine of Michigana Shores, IN for
"The Money Cowry."
 
Most Beautiful Shell Trophy: Mrs. Ethel Gettleman of Granite City, IL
for "Colors of Shells" This display also won the "Exhibitor's Favorite
Trophy." voted by the exhibitors.
 
Shell of the Show: Frank Frumar of Kirkwood, MO for Fasciolaria lilium
'bullisi' Lyons, 1972 from off the Dry Tortugas, FL.
 
Self Collected Shell of the Show: Craig Caddigan of FL for Gaza superba
'cubana' Clench & Aguayo, 1940 from off Southwest Cay, isla de Guanaja,
Bay Islands.
 
The show had exibitors from five states.  The Greater St. Louis Shell
Club, draws its membership from the metropolitan St. Louis area of
Missouri and neighboring Illinois.  The club,the first to have shell
shows in the mid-west, has sponsored shows since 1960.
