Dear David,
Most Octopus species are able to drill holes in their prey.
Several articles are written on this subject (I believe by
Dixon). Some are also dealing with the differences between
holes drilled by predatory gastropods and Octopus.
If you are interested I can send you more info at a later
stage (early next week).
