Hum -

As a young man skin diving for hours at a time I like the 'CRESI' (sp)
yellow floating type. When laying on the water looking down
the floating types keep up the legs. Never had split type - but
the ones I had were slightly curved and I could drive down (remember ~
18 yrs old)
down to -45 feet to snatch something, pause, or look under a coral 'leaf'.

I was snorkeling with white tip sharks for the most part.
But there was plenty of other fish for them to think about.

Likely impossible to consider, but an experimental trip to try out the stuff
before going on the real thing would be best.

With the concept of old glasses - great idea. Might have some 'reading'
glasses
of various diopter to try the same way. They, glasses, will limit some
view sideways
but will improve directional views. If you have only a trip to
experiment or use -
take a few possible examples with you and find a good way then enjoy.

Getting a small bottle of the anti-fog would be very good.
