James,

All I can provide is a negative. Julia Gardner did extensive fossil
work in North Florida in a seres of pamphlets published between 1923
and 1944 on the Alum Bluff Group.  She often used the species name of
"precursor" for new species.  In this series of 8 pubs the only
mention of Scaphella is on page 403 of Paper 142-F which basically
states that the species doesn't exist in this fossil record.
