Hi Rory,
When I was a boy my father use to trap slugs which were devouring his garden
with a simple trap which was quite effective. He used a shallow bowl of beer
with a cover plate to keep out any rain suspended over it about 1 inch
above. The slugs apparently were attracted to the smell of the beer and
would go into it and drown.
Dad said that the only problem that he had with the method was that the
slugs made so much noise partying that it kept him awake at night. (He had a
great sense of humor)
Matt
