Google translation is indeed useful for dealing with foreign texts,
but it has some peculiarities and is generally not so good at
technical terms.  Japanese common names for freshwater mussels come
out somewhat strange, for example, though several of the English
common names are strange without being questionably translated.
Google Translate is largely based on computerized comparison of
translated texts, and so doesn't handle some simple things very well.
For example, it used to not recognize l' in French as le in front of a
vowel, so the whole word would be left untranslated unless you went
back and inserted a space between the l' and the word.

At the moment, Google Translate insists on rendering anything typed
into it into cyrillic when you type a space, so pasting things in
rather than direct typing is necessary.
