You could explore Arcachon basin shores abnd try to get some shells from
fishermen: due to oyster exchanges with populations from SE. France,
some large mediterranean species used to live offshore: Hexaplex
trunculus, Stramonita haemastoma, in their lagunar style.

For the same reasons, it could be interesting to snorkel and beachcomb
around the entrance of Ayrolles Lagoon, Gruissan, Languedoc-Roussillon.
The whole area is a great place, worth to be visited and pictured, very
quiet, but the entrance (the "grau de la vieille nouvelle") hosts many
large and dark coloured examples of various local species, and rejects
some species from Atlantic (due to conchological exchanges with shell
farmers from W. France): rare Buccinum undatum with perio, Crepidula
fornicata etc.
