Once again you came through. I have now got several good places to check with to learn more about our book.

Thanks to all of you who responded.

=============
Thursday I walked into the shell room at ASU and found a lovely old book on my work table. I learned that it was received with the collection of Chester Melville (of Massachussetts) back in 1966. Because it appeared to be valuable, it had been placed in a cabinet to protect it, and it just came back to light during our move to a new building.

The book is ILLUSTRATIONS OF JAPANESE AQUATIC PLANTS AND ANIMALS VOLUME TWO It was printed in 1932 by Tokyo Fisheries Society of Japan (Dai-Nihon Suisan-Kwai), 1 Tameike, Akasaka.

The book is larger than legal-size paper, and is bound not with glue, but by a white (silk?) cord tied through two holes at the left margin. The cover is cardboard covered in a rusty colored fabric that looks like raw silk. The pages are all glossy. On one page is names and other information regarding beautiful colored illustrations. The information is presented in Japanese at the left, and in English at the right. The illustrations are on the following page and each page is separated by tracing paper. The book is a work of art.

The cover is a bit worn at the corners where the fabric has worn away from the cardboard. But otherwise it is in very good condition. The illustrations are of all manner of marine life from seaweeds to Cephalopods and other molluscs, to fish, etc.

Do any of you know who could help us get the book valued? We plan to keep it and may put it on display in a glass case if practical. If it is valuable, we want to insure it for a proper amount. I ask you because the book might have one kind of value to a bookseller and another value to conchologists and malacologists.
