Hi, everyone!
Here on Jeju Island, the "sora" (Turbo (Batillus) cornutus) is the most important mollusk. It is one of the few mollusks harvested commercially here and it the main catch for the women divers (haenyo). During the Korean War and for a long time afterward, it was the main food that sustained their families and often their villages.
It can be purchased fresh at the haenyo stations, and in all the markets, department stores, and smaller seafood stores. It is also a popular food on the mainland, especially along the south coast. It is delicious when steamed, sliced, and served with rice and a variety of dipping sauces.
