Dear DSSAT Netters :

I would like to welcome you to our DSSAT Listserver. Since the list started
about two weeks ago there have been more than 100 subscriptions. We have
not had too much traffic yet, and I hope we can keep the traffic under control.

For those on the list not familiar with the acronym DSSAT, it stands for
Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer. In 1989 the IBSNAT
Project released DSSAT V2.1 and recently DSSAT V3.0 has been released. The
new DSSAT includes the generic grain cereal model CERES for wheat, maize,
barley, millet, and sorghum, CERES-Rice, the generic grain legume model
CROPGRO for soybean, peanut, and dry bean, the potato model SUBSTOR, and the
cassava model CROPSIM. Models for other crops are currently under
development. DSSAT V3 also includes several data management programs, such
as Weatherman and Gencalc, both published recently in the Agronomy Journal.
The old strategy analysis program of DSSAT V2.1 has been further developed
into a Seasonal Analysis program to study different crop management
scenarios for one season, and a Sequence Analysis program, to study crop
rotations. Both programs were published recently in the Agronomy Journal.

As the "format" IBSNAT group, we realize that there are many users of the
stand-alone crop models and the DSSAT system. This listserver is setup for
you as. Please share your questions, concerns, problems, applications,
announcements, publications, or anthing appropriate with the group. You
will find that some of the model developers like J. T. Ritchie, J. W. Jones,
P.K. Thornton, W. T. Bowen, K. J. Boote, J. W. White, D. Imamura, G. Y.
Tsuji and others are members of this list. We will try to share items
related to problems, errors, upgrades etc. related to the crop models and
DSSAT with you.

I you have any questions related to this list specifically, please send me a
personal note. My e-mail address is [log in to unmask]
