Post Doc position - Developing large scale crop models for biomass production in Africa (Bonn, Germany)

<> The Crop Science Group at the Institute of Crop Science and Research
Conservation (INRES), University of Bonn, offers a Post Doc position
with the major task to develop large-scale dynamic simulation models
for the production of biomass of maize and cassava in three African
countries and to assess the impacts of changes in management and
technology at the national scale.

Main activities of work of the above position comprise (i) model development and up-scaling including uncertainty analysis of input data, model parameters and scaling methods
and (ii) model application taking into account the present conditions and potential future changes in crop management (iii) linking the developed biophysical models with economic and value-chain models.
The research is embedded into an interdisciplinary project which investigates the potential production of biomass in different African countries and its optimization with respect to food security, national economy and rural livelihoods.

We are looking for a highly motivated person to work in an interdisciplinary and international team. The successful candidate has a PhD degree in agriculture, plant sciences, geo-ecology or related sciences
with a background in crop production and expertise in improving and using crop simulation models. Experiences in the use of geographical information systems, object oriented programming (Java, C#) and
skills in database management are an advantage. The ability to frequently travel to Africa is expected and a good command of English is required.

We offer a full position paid according to the German regulations for scientists at the Post Doc level (TVL-13). Applicants with more than three years of experiences in scientific research
may be eligible for additional upgrades. The initial contract will be for a period of one year with the possibility of further extension to three years. The position is available immediately.

Applications of handicapped persons will be favored when all other qualifications are equal. Female candidates are encouraged to submit their applications.
Applications (CV, PhD/MSc diplomas, statement of research interests and achievements, list of publications, three names of referees) will be considered until 31st of August 2103
or until the position is filled thereafter and should be sent to:
