The research facility in Galveston will be one of the field trips
associated with the COA convention in 2000.  It is fascinating!  They
operate a research vessel to harvest squid in Galveston Bay which are
provided to researchers.  They also raise several different type of
cuttlefish.  There is also a tank of nautilus.

They provided cuttlefish for an exhibit at the remodeled Strake Hall of
Malacology (another COA 2000 field trip) a couple of years ago.  We went to
a reception just prior to the grand reopening.  The curator would wander by
the cuttlefish tank and plead, "Please don't die."  Later it was determined
that cuttlefish require chilled water - Oops!  Last batch are doing well
now that the chiller has been installed.
