Strombus eat tiny algaes and epiphytes which grow on turtle grass. Since
Strombus alatus is found in pure sand which often has a purplish cast to it
due to the color of the algae covering it, I presume they eat that algae. I
don't know its name.
In Bimini last week I watched a Strombus raninus grazing on tiny stuff on
the side of a blade of turtle grass. They don't eat the turtle grass itself
- that's probably too big.
