There are no official rules for taxonomic names above
superfamily, as the ICZN (International Comission on
Zoological Nomenclature) specifically does not deal with
them. However, there are suggestions, with greater or
lesser following. For example, the Treatise on Invertebrate
Paleontology has set up a standardized way of dealing with
higher taxonomic groups. A few years ago, Starobogatov
suggested a standardization in the Bulletin of the ICZN. I
do not think existing widely-used names will be changed to
match his ideas, but they do provide a handy model when
proposing new names.
