I don't know if shelling is legal or not on Bermuda. Everything else is
banned there, so it wouldn't surprise me.

But Bermuda is a small over-populated island. I can't imagine why you
would go there instead of, say, one of the out islands of the Bahamas;
Eleuthera, Exuma, the Abacos, Andros, Long Island, Cat Island & more

In the Bahamas, there are hundreds of beaches empty of people. And the
lower population means the ecosystems there aren't stressed the way
they are in Bermuda. In the Bahamas there is just plain far habitat,
many, many more square miles per person and the water is very clean.

You won't find any shells in Bermuda (if you are lucky enough to find
them) that you won't find in abundance in the Bahamas. In fact, if fish
species are any indicator, there is a greater species diversity in the
Bahamas.

And then there is the matter of those shorts. In Bermuda there are an
awful lot of nasty old white knees on display. You don't want to see
that. You want to have the pristine beach of Stocking Island all to
yourself. You want to snorkel under Glass Window Bridge with
swimming-pool blue as far as the eye can see.
