Hello,

Land snails, especially Helix, were popular food in Europe since ancient times.
Most probably the Helix were used as food, not for a ceremony.
Even today, if one wants to find the larger Helix in Europe, medieval ruins
of castles or monasteries are likely to shelter populations of the larger
Helicidae.

Mabuhay from Mactan island, the Philippines.
