Hi Heather, Last time I was in Northern California I got several nice red
abalone shells from the ranger at McKaracker State Park just north of Ft.
Bragg, CA. There is still, I think, a sports diving area there and the
divers only want the meat and leave the shells which the ranger collected
and sold at the store at the park for $5.00 each. Give it a try they might
even give you some for free. Bert Bartleson, Olympia, WA

Subject: [CONCH-L] Looking for Abalone Shells

Hi y'all

I'm trying to track down some Red and White Abalone (Haliotis rufescens and
H. sorenseni) shell specimens for a radioisotope study in California. Does
anyone know of any museum, public, or private collections, large or
small---dried shells, preserved shells or animals---anywhere in Oregon,
California, or Baja CA that I might get a hold of?

Have a fantastic day.
