Thanks to those who offered information on Lunarca ovalis. I've ordered
the Mikkelson & Bieler for our library, and imagine it will be very
useful.

The genus author is Gray, 1857.  Molecular data, the hinge, and ligament
are all quite distinctive.  The Mikkelsen and Bieler Seashells of
Southern Florida is one reference using Lunarca, but I don't know what
would be the first modern paper splitting it off.
