A few weeks ago I posted a request to purchase, trade or obtain loan of
specimens of P. soleniformis. The reason was that for a long time P. lata
was not treated correctly in many shell books, but presented erroneously as
P. soleniformis. As in my own collection, I suspected many collectors
actually had P. lata misidentified as P. soleniformis.

I want to thank Dr. G. Thomas Watters for providing a number of both of
these species. With his help and material I have been able to produce a
guide that should make separation of these two species easy. My impression
is that P. soleniformis is rather rare from Florida. As in my prior posts,
I would like to hear from those with first-hand knowledge of collecting P.
soleniformis in Florida. I would also seek loan of additional
Florida-collected specimens to add to my photo essay.
