Subject: Muricidae help needed, please

Hi Roland,
Many thanks for your reply to my ID request. I'm starting to understand how
variable C. torrefactus is! I had thought C. torrefactus was a shallow water
species with a heavy shell, but
now I see they can also grow in 50-100m. and have a thin shell like C.
species 8. I'm Also learning about V. rectirostris which I thought could not
get so large as 71 or 89mm. What do you look for when distinguishing between
V. rectirostris and V. dolichorus[spelling?], or V. kiiensis,Kira,1959 and
V. gallinago, Sowerby, 1903? Is the difference in a denticulate collemnella?
Once again, thanks for your help.
Bruce
