Heres some info about Dr. Mayr,

He is still alive. I had the honor of meeting him a couple of years ago. He
comes down every winter to Florida (surprise) to get away from the cold and he
usually makes a visit to the University of Florida. This is some info that is
in the back of his latest book, This is Biology (its also an excellent book).

Ernst Mayr is Alexander Agassiz Professor of Zoology, Emeritus, at Harvard
University and the author of many books, including The Growth of Biological
Though and One Long Argument: Charles Darwin and the Genesis of Modern
Evolutionary Thought, winnner of the 1992 Phi Beta Kappa award for best
science book. He is also the recipient of numerous honorary degrees and
awards, including the National Medal of Science, the Balzan Prize, and Japan
Prize, and is an honorary member of learned societies throughout the world.

Not bad for a scientist!!!

Emilio
