Compendium Printings Summary
Note that in 1978 this was originally an S. Peter Dance project which due to
scope became a change to collaborate with R. Tucker Abbott.  Both authors
quickly learned how big of a project it was.
I must concur with Mr. Callomon, that the only printing that is truly as 2nd
edition is the Japanese edition, the 2nd and 3rd qualify as revised
editions, although minor.

1982  E.P. Dutton, Inc.   First Printing,  First Edition

   <>  Officially released:  January 28, 1983
   <>  Printing - 17,000 copies,  about 10,000 of were Book Club Editions
-  There were two "Author's Errata" slips created, which were provided when
Dutton First Edition copies were shipped directly from the authors.  The
first Errata slip is dated December of 1982, although the book was not
available until January of 1983.   The second is dated February of 1983.
Errata was also posted to several Journals.

-  Dr. Okutani of the Japanese National Museum of Science wrote a new and
longer introduction with all new figures, illustrations, and thirty new
photos which were alternates from his book on the "Kawamura Collection".  He
also made many corrections in captions as did Dr. Habe.

-  In early 1985 E.P. Dutton was acquired (bought out) by "New American
Library", and they dumped the remaining stock of 1100 books and the plates,
to R.T. Abbott, which he acquired for his publishing business "American
Malacologists, Inc." (AMI)  in July 1986.

-  In fall of 1986 there was serious discussions on a true 2nd edition of
Compendium, and it appears that both Abbott and Dance were already working
on parts of it, but it never moved far forward.

imprint pages only.

2000 & 2003  Odyssey Publishing,  Seventh & Eighth Printings
   <>  Same as Sixth Printing but the cover is garnished with new shells,
normal images.

Odyssey Publishing only had the new cover and pages deigned.  The printing
orders were made by Odyssey owner John D. Jackson, arranged through Cecilia
White Abbott and her agent Gloria R. Mosesson, all three of which passed
away within a short period of each other around 2009.  That said, the
location in China where the plates are is an unknown.
