I was wondering who out there within eye-shot of U.S. Public Television saw
the NATURE program last Sunday nite? Maybe I don't get out enough, but the
macrophotography of those marine critters was simply amazing. Mollusks
made up about a fourth of the show. The shots of byssal thread formation
in Mytilus (at least I 'm guessing it was Mytilus) were out of this world.
The narration was pretty lame. Comparing sculpins to packs of hyenas, etc.
but it was among the best underwater photography I have ever seen. The
shots of the limpet (sp.?) defending against the starfish was amazing. The
reproduction sequences by the clams was truly impressive, humbling in fact
(if you know what I mean). I would make copies but I'm just not set up to
do that kind of thing (that and the fact my tape ran out before the end).
If it ever runs again I think it's a must see for conch heads everywhere.
