I much prefer a copy stand to a tripod, from the point of view of ease of
lighting arrangements, stability, and convenience of use. To upload from
slides to a computer, you would need a good slide scanner, which could run
you $1200 or more. To upload prints, you would need a flatbed scanner, which
can be had for under $200. A slide scanner does give great resolution, but
that isn't too important if you are only posting to a website, since you are
limited by the screen resolution of the monitor anyway. A slide scanner can
also scan negatives, which can be converted to positives by any good graphics
program. And of course you will need a graphics (image processing) program,
no matter what approach you use. I prefer Photoshop myself, but there are
other good ones.
