There is quite a difference from a Ni'ihau lei necklace to a puka shell
necklace.
Puka shell necklaces are made from the bottoms of cone shells - not
foraminiferans if they are a true puka shell necklace. I lived in Hawaii 12
years and have made several puka shell necklaces. They are worth a few
hundred dollars depending on the length of the chain and the condition of
the shell piece. If natural shells have been used - it is valuable. If the
shells have been ground down or tumbled, you are looking at a few dollars.

Something funny going on in cyberspace. I have received this message from
Andy to Linda, but never received Linda's original message to the server.
When visiting these web sites I clicked on one mentioning puka necklaces and
it froze my computer. As most of you probably know, puka "shells" are
actually foraminiferans. Some years ago (before the web) I spent a lot of
time finding enough references to "puka" for some dictionary to consider
listing it as "real" word.
