FIRST NOTICE
WESTERN SOCIETY OF MALACOLOGISTS
ANNUAL MEETING JUNE 13-17, 1999
California State University, Fullerton
To all paleomalacologists:
The 32nd meeting of the Western Society of Malacologists will be
held at California State University, Fullerton, June 13-17, 1999. A
symposium entitled "Current research on west coast molluscan paleontology"
is planned for Wednesday morning June 16 that will highlight up-to-date
molluscan paleontological research of California, Oregon, Washinton, and
Baja California organized by Richard L. Squires (CSUN) and Lindsey T. Groves
(LACM). After a lunch break, we will lead an afternoon field trip to nearby
Silverado Canyon, Santa Ana Mountains to collect and observe Late Cretaceous
(Turonian through Campanian) fossil mollusks.
Although the meeting is 9 months away, we would certainly appreciate
feedback from any and all paleomalacologists who are interested in attending
and/or participating in this symposium and field excursion. This
information is rather critical as it will allow us to get a preliminary
"head count" for scheduling purposes and whether or not a second session
possibly on Thursday (6-17) will be required. Fossil mollusks are
indeed an important part of malacology, this is our chance to show it!
