This is a great idea.  I also am active in an orchid club here in
Massachusetts, and we have in the past petitioned to transplant orchids that
are protected from lands that are about to be developed, only to be told it
violates state and/or federal stautes governing endangered species, and we
would be subject to arrest.  I only wish I was kidding.  I have heard the
same ting in reference to areas in South Florida in regards to both orchids
and Liguus.
It's OK for developers to clear a forest and turn it into house lots or
parking areas, but not OK to attempt to save the endangered species living
there first.  Something is seriously screwed up with this!
