Those who started shell collecting post-1990 might not be familiar
with a short-lived yet gem of a shell collector
publication/newsletter called "Shells & Sea Life" published by Steven
Long in the 1980's; formerly published as "The Opsithobranch".

Volume 16, No. 5 through No. 12 (May thru Dec. 1984) including the
1984 index has been scanned as one searchable PDF document and
uploaded to the Biodiversity Heritage Library Web site.

There is a host of articles that still stand the test of time with
many color and black & white pictures and plates.

Articles by Emily Vokes on The Identity of Murex peasei and its
generic placement, and a second on a comparison of cognate Muricidae
species of the Western Atlantic and Eastern Pacific, Bill Liltved on
Ovulids, Don Shasky on the Redescription of Oliva foxi, Hans Bertsch
on the Cypraea "teres" complex, the first of a series of articles on
Xenophoridae by Kate St.Jean, Katherine Stewart on Haliotis squamosa,
David Behrens on shell ecology, one by myself on Placostylus
miltocheilus, Alex Kerstitch on Giant Clams and Terry Gosliner on
Nudibranchs, among dozens of other collector-oriented articles, news
notes and shell information.

S&SL also provides an interesting glimpse into our hobby back in the
1980's...even an article on how to use computers for shell
collections when home computing was truly in its infancy written by
Conch-L's own Winston Barney.

Volume 17 to 20 of S&SL is also available on BHL (link below)...yet
another example of the usefulness of BHL for conchologists.
