Dear Shell listers,
 
I have been unable to find the origin of the common name "flamingo
tongue" for Cyphoma gibbosum.
I have looked in numerous texts, net resources etc. (Unfortunately there
are no flamingos at hand whose tongues I can inspect; maybe they look
just like the cowry?!) I would greatly appreciate any explanation you can
provide. Opinions are welcome but a published citation would be much more
valuable. Also, any references to recent work on toxicity of this species
would be appreciated. Many thanks,
