We just returned from Kauai, and I must agree with David, it is stunning.
While we were there we didn't find many shells, lots of limpet and nerita.
I found a couple of battered cyprea and lots of very, very small shells that
I have yet to identify.

We met a very nice lady at the Shell Factory. That is a small shop in
Kapaa, on the East side of Kauai. She is a shell collector and had lots of
stories, unfortunately, she didn't give her name. She said the best time to
shell there is late winter, early spring.

If we could, we would take advantage of the low fares and head right back
there. The snorkeling is great, lots of fish. We spent time at a little
beach across from the Lawaii Beach Resort and swam with turtles! There was
a 'cleaning station' right of shore and a great variety of fish were coming
in to be serviced.

Best to you, hope you get to go.
