Dear Steve,  The cowries eat quite a bit, when you get them eating.  With a
stick or something hold the food close to them when you see them grazing on
glass.  If they turn away keep getting in front of them until they get a
taste of the food.
For anyone interested, I've just undated my website.  The pictures are there
for your enjoyment.  My SLR is covered with dust.
