Depending on what kind of accommodations are needed, Lonely Planet guides can be fairly helpful. They're are franker than the usual tourist literature treatment and tell you some of the conditions to be found at various hotels and tourist places. Some of the information is inevitably out of date, but I still found LP guides useful in India, Sri Lanka and Costa Rica to get an idea of what's available from people who are not trying to pitch to you.

I'm going to make an odd suggest Trish. The last two Survivor seasons
were held in the Pearl Islands. You might try going to CBS' Survivor
site. The might have some links that would be useful for tourism there,
