Dear Marlo,

There must be some internet contagion. I was just puzzling over that a
couple of weeks ago. I could only find it in Warmke & Abbott, and Bob Lipe's
book. American Seashells (1974) only lists Hyalina lactea from "West
Indies."

Warmke & Abbott's description (Marginella lactea Kiener, 1841): "Florida to
the West Indies. About 1/4 inch in length with a moderately-developed glazed
spire. Color milk-white throughout. Outer lip slightly thickened, incurved
in the middle. Columella nearly straight, with 4 strong folds. Obtained from
shallow-water dredgings."

I was going to get some images of specimens from Anguilla I've been calling
M. lactea and ask whether Volvarina lactea is the right name.

It seems that there's a lot of revising and naming that needs to be done.
However, there IS a lot of recent work on west Atlantic marginellids that is
expensive and difficult to access. That is the work of Ortea & Espinosa.

I'll be working on some images, so maybe we can compare.
