Dear Phil,

I have a copy of the Cate reference. It is: A Review of the Triviidae
(Mollusca: Gastropoda) by Crawford Neill Cate. It was published as Memoir
10 of th San Diego Society of Natual History on June 20, 1979.

Cate lists Trivia solandri as Pusula (Pusula) solandri (Sowerby II, 1832)
and limits its range to Baja California down to Mazatlan in Mexico. The
'analogue' to Pusula solandri he introduces as Pusula (Pusula) padreserrai
Cate, 1979 ranges from San Pedro, California, USA to Baja California,
Mexico. Cate maintains that the shell of P. padreserrai is different from
that of P. solandri.

I have reservations about this treatment. In Marine Shells of Southern
California by Dr. James McLean, he illustrates a typical Trivia solandri
from Laguna Beach, California, USA. This appears to cast doubt on Cate's
thesis.

It will be interesting to read what others contribute.

Warm regards,

Bill
