Doug,
I don't know about your shell, but Perna perna is a common mussel on south
Brazilian coast and it is one of the biggest mussels in the world.
Shells with more than 12cm are usual.
The world record (from Brazilian waters) has 170mm (Pisor's Registry of
World Records Size Shells, 2005).
