Felicia,

i work with volutidae, and usually pulling the animal out (when
not too roten) makes the columelar muscle to loose and the
animal comes out without damage. Sometimes the tip of the
digestive gland do tear apart, but still some data can be
obtained.

Freezing the animal sometimes helps loosing the soft parts out.
