  Remember also that Petuch is a taxonomic splitter par excellant!  Though
some of his new genera and species have and will stand the test of time,
many have already been listed in synonymies.  One that I recall deals with
the fossil genus Ecphora (Gastropoda).  Petuch has written extensively on
this genus and erected numerous genera, subgenera and species.  Several
researches have already discussed that some of his genera are no more than
minor variations of other established ecphorin genera and have listed them
as synonyms.  The best one was the numerous names that he assigned to
Miocene ecphora from the, I believe, Choptank Formation in Maryland.  I
believe Lauck Ward wrote a volume on this region and showed how many of
Petuch's new species graded into one another.  Thus some 10 or 15 taxa
were collapsed into one.  If someone needs futher details let me know and
I can get the exact references from my library at home.
