Linda,

As far as I know, there hasn't been a real shell shop in New York for quite some time. Within walking distance of Broadway is Maxilla and Mandible (or it used to be). It always has a few shells, mostly tourist type stuff. It is a store full of natural history stuff like skulls, minerals, mounted insects, etc. There was a small shop at the pier, but again nothing really there but the common Philippine shells seen in every tourist basket in shell stores on the beach. Take in a show, go to the museums, and wait for the shells at the bourse.

Tom E.

Subject: Shell shops in New York City

Hi, All!

I know this came up a while ago, but I have trouble, for some reason, using the archives; so feel free to reply to me off list.

I am going to New York City next week, and I am wondering if there are any shell shops in New York City. I seem to recall that Coney Island was mentioned, but I don't think I'll get down that far. So are there any others?

Thanks!
Linda
