I also thank all the responders to my recent query--I am sure it will generate many more questions in our future than answers, which is the only way we learn.

Thanks to all respondents for "clarification" ...which has led me to a much more enhanced understanding of how little I know.

Contrary to DNA being perceived by the general public as an "exact science" with definitive answers to all life-questions, a picture of variability, uncertainty, and a lack of comprehensive genetic knowledge has just been painted... in spite of recent great advances.

I sometimes wondered what life would be like in the distant(?) future, when sequences of all species had been determined and compared and questions regarding molluscan (and other) taxonomy, classification, evolution, etc. had long since been answered definitively and the "lumpers" and "splitters" saw eye-to-eye on these issues. Thankfully, because this is fun stuff which should challenge (be enjoyed by) generations to come, I now really don't see it happening.

I very much appreciate all your time for the great responses,
Thanks,
Paul

There are a few cases at least in humans, where 'different parts of the anatomy' could result in different human DNA. First many immune cells are the results of rearrangements and deleations so technically they are different (T-cells and B-cells anyway). Obviously sex cells, the results of meiosis, will have 'different' DNA as a result of recombination and reduction in the chromosome. The third one is rare, but in a VERY few number of human Chimeric individuals are known to exist, apparently one individual the result of a fusion between, what I would guess are two fertalized eggs. These individuals will have two completely different types of DNA from different tissues. Otherwise the remainder of the DNA should be the same. Don't know if that helps.
