Today I entered a nice stack of Shell books that were just delivered from
my Dad. He has archived some for me and others in the family.

Two great finds.

1. Historical and important. A Federal report - circa 1946 ... " This
report on the Cypraeidae of the Marshall Islands
is based on material collected in 1946 by the Oceanographic section of
Operation Crossroads of Joint
Task Force One whose purpose included the survey of the Fauna and Flora
of the area before and
after the atom - boms (sic) [bombs] were exploded, and on material
gathered in 1947 by the
Bikini Scientific Resurvey organized by the Department of the Navy, the
United States Armed Forces Special
Weapons Project, and the Atomic Energy Commission."

Mouthful first sentence! I have the pre document not the post document.
This is 154 type written, aged
and then IBM ed - aka Xeroxed. I have no idea of a report number or
name. That likely was not
copied for some reason. The post part was not here - perhaps not useful.

This is my special book that was hand named "Cowries of the Marshall
Islands".
A Tiger or Cypraea Tigris is on the front 4 ring binder. This was in a
comb binder at one time.
-----

The second find - and I continue to await for the arrival of the
published version (used (rats)) -

2. "A Guide to Shell Collecting in the Kwajalein Atoll" by Fred Brost
and Bob Coale."
In pre publish typewriter format. The nice part in this copy is the
following statement :

Acknowledgments .....
"In particular, our thanks to the Eric Kokko, Emil Eastburn and
family, Don
Pitts, Roger Hine, and Phil and Beverly Monson. ..."

Emil, my younger brother, was the avid or was it rabid diver. He took
the training and became a master.
He owned a fish export business in Hawaii for some time. Now he is high
tech helping us all.
One project was the shear wind radar development.

Our family provided shells for pictures and books for research. Nice to
have this first generation model.
They consulted anywhere they could get a technical or clinical ear.

Martin
